Last weekend we made a family visit to San Jacinto square in south Mexico City, a lovely colonial area with beautiful art galleries and stores. Many of them filled with amazing crafts like the famous “Catrinas” (Dapper Skeletons or Elegant Skulls) which are so representative of Día de Muertos and the “Alebrijes”, fantasy characters with mixed animal characteristics. Both great ideas for Halloween costumes as well.
La semana pasada hicimos una visita familiar a la Plaza San Jacinto en el sur de la Ciudad de México, una bella zona colonial con galerías de arte y tiendas preciosas. Muchas de ellas llenas de increíbles artesanías como las Catrinas que son tan representativas del Día de Muertos y los Alebrijes, personajes de fantasía con una mezcla de características de distintos animales. Ambos buenas opciones para disfraces de Halloween también.
A great stroll to get inspired and remembering our cultural value and the talent of our craftsmen, that are really artists to me. It’s inevitable to feel motivated to keep on creating and enjoying color that surrounds us. Last week I did finish my new bag pattern, a floral design made with tapestry crochet. And going on with this technique but with a brighter shade I’m finishing the next one, no drawing in it but a combination of textures…
Un gran paseo para inspirarse y recordar nuestro valor cultural y el talento de los artesanos que son verdaderos artistas para mi. Es inevitable sentirse motivado a seguir creando y disfrutar el color que nos rodea. La semana pasada terminé mi nuevo patrón para bolso, un diseño floral hecho con tapestry crochet. Y siguiendo con esta técnica pero con un color más brillante estoy terminando el siguiente, sin dibujo esta vez pero con combinación de texturas…
And I haven’t forgotten, a new free pattern is still pending but I just haven’t decided what to do. Any suggestions or ideas? I’m between a new floral necklace or a new wraphia basket (I loved this material). Have a great weekend!!
