These butterflies can be used for headbands, hairpins, a baby mobile, a necklace, or just as an appliqué for any garment. You’ll need a 2.5 mm crochet hook, super fine yarn (#6 cotton thread), a small amount of stuffing and a stitch marker
SMALL WINGS (Make 2): Crocheted in the round, in a spiral way. Ch 2.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook= 6 sts (I suggest placing a marker in the first st of every round to count sts and rounds easier)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around= 12 sts
Rnd 3-7: Sc 12. When working in the round with the same number of sts your work starts to entwine. It’s better if you turn your work inside out, it will be easier to continue crocheting.
Stuff after finishing R7.
Rnd 8: (sc 1, skip next st) rep ( ) 6 times= 6 sts. Sl st in the first st of this round.
Fasten off leaving a long strand in one of the wings to sew afterwards.
BIG WINGS (Make 2): Crocheted in the round in a spiral way. Ch 2.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook= 6 sts
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around= 12 sts
Rnd 3: Sc 12.
Rnd 4: (sc 1, 2 sc in next st) rep ( ) 6 times= 18 sts
Rnd 5-7: Sc 18
Rnd 8: (sc 1, dec 1) rep ( ) 6 times= 12 sts.
Rnd 9: Sc 12. Stuff the wing.
Rnd 10: (sc 1, skip next st) rep ( ) 6 times= 6 sts. Sl st in the first st of this round.
Fasten off leaving a long strand on both wings to sew afterwards (11.8″/ 30 cm approx)
Join small wings from the ending.
Sew the big wings to the small wings.
Wrap one of the strands around the seam, leaving a 2″/ 5 cm tip.
Then wrap the remaining strand in the opposite direction.
Make a double knot with both ends to form the antennas. The butterfly is ready.
