You’ll need a 6 mm and a 3.5 mm crochet hook, sport weight cotton yarn in 8 different shades (2 of these colors will be used for joining only), 24.4″/ 62 cm of chain, 1 set of clasps, stitch markers and a tapestry needle.
The first thing you need to do is find your chain and think of the size you want your necklace to be. Measure the chain directly on your neck to decide the length. You will see the measurements for my chain and the finished necklace in the following image.
SHORT UPPER PIECE
With three strands of yarn and the 6 mm crochet hook, ch 51.
R1: Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 50= 50 sts
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
LONG LOWER PIECE
With three strands of yarn and the 6 mm crochet hook, ch 61.
R1: Starting in 2nd ch from hook sc 60= 60 sts
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Then place markers in the first and last links of the chain that will be joined with the crochet work.
Take your tapestry needle and start joining the short piece to the chain. There are more links than sts so you’ll have to adjust sewing twice in the same st every 3 sts.
Then join the 2nd crocheted piece. This will be easier because there are only two links more than sts so you can adjust at the beginning and end only.
CROCHETED CIRCLES (Make 2)
With one strand of yarn and the 3.5 mm crochet hook, ch 3. Sl st in the first ch made to close in the round.
Rnd 1: Ch 2, hdc 9= 10 sts. Sl st in the 2nd beginning ch to close the round.
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
The circles will work as the base for sewing the clasps.
Once sewed, open the links of the chain on each end and join.
The necklace is finished.
