PIXEL C2C CROCHET SCARF

FREE PATTERN WITH VIDEO TUTORIAL

Learning a new technique is kind of a path, where you begin with first steps and continue discovering with further possibilities. That is the way I will be covering C2C crochet topic for some more posts, because it is worth going through the most important variations to understand it.

The Colors C2C Crochet Blanket tutorial, which was launched a couple of weeks ago was the first approach, to learn the basic corner to corner square construction. And now, the Pixel C2C Crochet Scarf goes a little further, to display a rectangle structure, to go on with this fun diagonal and colorful dynamic.

If you want to check my Colors C2C Crochet Blanket to start with a C2C basic square you can watch that video tutorial first, to get those essential notions.

Because breaking it into separate projects can make it easier to practice, starting with the easiest steps and evolving little by little in complexity. As mentioned before, the scarf involves a rectangle, that still uses basic corner to corner principles and with the perfect size for a medium scarf you can wear all year long.

Repetitive crochet patterns are used to complete the design, to increase one block in each row to begin and then, keeping the same number of blocks diagonally, to grow the scarf in length. And by the end, going back by decreasing one block in each row.

A free pattern that is worked mainly with double crochets, chains and slip stitches, to create every little block that puts all the project together. But if you do not have many notions of these basic stitches, you can watch my Basic Stitches back and forth video below, which covers all the essentials for three different stitches, including double crochets, if you feel you need to practice first.

One project that could be considered small and perfect to display colorful yarns too, allowing the color transitions to pop up so beautifully in little pixels.

SPECIAL STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES
C2C Crochet (Corner to corner)

Crochet technique that is made from small blocks which are worked diagonally. The blocks are commonly made of 3 double crochets and 3 chains (they can also be made with half double crochets). It is worked back and forth, by increasing or decreasing one block in each row, depending on the final shape needed (square, rectangle, triangle).

Single crochet join (Standing single crochet)
Used to add a new yarn in the beginning of a new round, to get a cleaner start. Make a slip ring over the hook, insert the hook in the st, yarn over, pull through the st, yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.

This video tutorial for the Pixel C2C Crochet Scarf covers all steps of the making. Video is in Spanish, but you have the option to see the Closed Caption in the language of your choice, by selecting the settings icon on the video then, select Closed Caption, Automatic Translation and select your language. And you also have all written directions, a chart and images (below this same post), to follow every detail step by step.

If you want the formatted, ad free, 9 page PDF document (with written instructions, charts and more than 50 images in photo tutorials) of the Pixel C2C Crochet Scarf, this is available in my pattern stores (RavelryEtsyLovecrochet) for USD $4.70. And I think I should also mention that this includes the formatted Colors C2C Crochet Blanket PDF as well.

I used DK weight yarn and 5 mm crochet hook to create a light yet cozy scarf. And with a yarn that already includes color changes, like I did with the blanket project, to take advantage of that square block effect all over the piece. PLEASE NOTE that the video tutorial displays the scarf made with PURPLE/PINK yarn while this post display the making with PINK SHADES option.
