Many babies/toddlers/kids designs still to be made, but one that makes me so happy, has finally seen the light. And quite literally, because it includes beautiful shining stars and a glowing guardian.
The Angelus Lovey Blanket is a cute companion for both night and day, while napping and fun outings to discover the world. A wonderful gift to welcome a new member in the family. With the perfect combination of techniques, for color work and finishing, to practice in a small project.
Tapestry including double crochets, to make the star hexagons and complete the blanket, made from separate pieces that are seamed further ahead with single crochet. A great chance to learn this kind of join, which is so helpful for grannies or any other project that needs seaming by the end. Intermediate skill level, because of the different little steps it involves to complete the whole project. But with repetitive sequences of stitches and few rows/rounds to make.
With other special stitches, like front and back loop single crochet, for additional details in the amigurumi angel, but nothing difficult. Just a little bonus, to give the project those final special touches.
SPECIAL STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES
Front loop single crochet: Single crochet, made in front loop of stitches from last round. Insert the hook in front loop of next stitch, yarn over, pull through the stitch, yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.
Back loop single crochet: Single crochet, made in back loop of stitches from last round. Insert the hook in back loop of next stitch, yarn over, pull through the stitch, yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.
Invisible decrease (single crochet): Used for a tighter finishing. (Insert the hook in the front loop of next stitch) twice, (yarn over and draw through two loops on the hook) twice. One stitch has been decreased.
Tapestry Crochet: In this technique, you crochet with one yarn while one or more threads are carried and wrapped in between the stitches. Colors are switched throughout rows/rounds to make a drawing. Depending on the project, you will make one or more foundation rows/rounds with one color only and then move on to the tapestry crochet portion of the project.
A good project to learn and practice tapestry with double crochets, for geometrical shapes. While increasing to form the star and making closed rounds.
All steps to make every piece and little details for assembly process, all covered in the Angelus Lovey Blanket Video Tutorial. To complement written instructions, charts and images (below this same post) for a super complete guide. And accompany you from beginning to end.
If you want the formatted, ad free, 16 page PDF document (with written instructions, charts and more than 100 images in photo tutorials) of the Angelus Lovey Blanket this is available in my pattern stores (Ravelry, Etsy, Lovecrochet) for USD $3.60.
Fingering weight yarn will give a fine look to the stars and nice texture to the amigurumi pieces. It will also result in a light weight toy, for a baby/toddler to handle with ease. A DIY proyect, where tapestry needle does becomes essential, to put everything together and hide the little tails of every seam.
