There are yarn skeins that call for simple designs, because quality is so unique, that you just want to avoid hiding it with intricate stitch work or plan for complicated finishing steps.
The Aria Envelope Bag is easy and fast to complete, with an ideal small size to carry all of our basic needs for the day. Including intuitive construction and basic stitches, with a cute crochet cord to make a resistant double handle.
A one skein project as well, with basic stitches such as single crochets, slip stitches, half double crochets. Worked both in the round and back and forth for a wonderful crochet practice.
So, easy level overall, but in case you want to have a little practice beforehand there are resources available. My Basic Stitches, Back and Forth video is the option for you to learn all the essential notions you need before making this bag design.
Few rounds and rows, taking advantage of the bulky weight yarn, for a project that you will be able to replicate in different colors and even different yarns.
SPECIAL STITCHES
Invisible join
It is used to get a cleaner end of round. Finish last st of the rnd, cut the yarn leaving a 4”/10 cm tail and pull the yarn through the loop. With tapestry needle, insert in the first st of the rnd. Then, insert the needle on top of the last st of the rnd, by going through the center and pulling through the WS. Pull to close and fasten off.

- One 100 gr / 3 oz (110 m/120 yd) skein of bulky weight Katia Homemade (68% cotton, 32% polyamide) yarn in ECRU 100
- 7 mm (K-2) crochet hook
- Stitch marker
- 1 set of magnetic snaps in SILVER
- Long nose plier (to attach the snaps)
- Tapestry needle
- Measuring tape
- Scissors

NOTES
- When crocheting in the round, in a spiral, with sc, place a marker in first st of the Rnd and move up with every Rnd as work progresses.
- When crocheting back and forth, with hdc, ch 2 to begin every R, these 2 ch replace the first hdc.
BAG
Crocheted in the round, in a spiral and back and forth, starting from the bottom. Ch 23.
Rnd 1: Starting in 2nd ch from the hook, sc 21, 2 sc in next ch, continue on the other side of the foundation ch, sc 21= 44 sts
Rnds 2-19: Sc 44= 44 sts.
Rnd 20: Sc 4, ch 1, skip 1 st, sc 21, ch 1, skip 1 st, sc 17= 42 sc and 2 ch-1 sp
Rnd 21: Sc 44= 44 sts.
Rnd 22 (short Rnd): Sc necessary sts just to reach the fold of the bag.
Sl st in next st.
To shape the bag flap, continue working back and forth, by starting on the RS,
from back of the bag.
R23 (RS): Ch 2, hdc 21, turn= 22 sts
R24: Sl st 2, ch 2, hdc 19, turn= 20 sts
R25: Sl st 2, ch 2, hdc 17, turn= 18 sts
R26: Sl st 2, ch 2, hdc 15, turn= 16 sts
R27: Sl st 2, ch 2, hdc 13, turn= 14 sts
R28: Sl st 2, ch 2, hdc 11, turn= 12 sts
R29: Sl st 2, ch 2, hdc 9, turn= 10 sts
R30: Sl st 2, ch 2, hdc 7, turn= 8 sts
R31: Sl st 2, ch 2, hdc 5, turn= 6 sts
R32: Sl st 2, ch 2, hdc 3, turn= 4 sts
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
SNAP BACKINGS (MAKE 2)
Crocheted in the round, in a spiral, starting from the center. Make a slip ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 8 sc inside the ring= 8 sts
Rnd 2: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next st) rep ( ) 4 times, close with invisible join in the 1st sc of the Rnd = 12 sts
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Weave in beg tail.
CROCHET CORD
Crocheted in the round, over the side of the work, starting from one end. Ch 2.
Rnd 1: Sc 1 in 2nd ch from hook= 1 st
Rnd 2: Turn the work slightly to the left. Insert the hook in the horizontal thread of sc from Rnd 1, over the side of the work.
Sc 1= 1 st
Rnd 3: Turn the work slightly to the left. Insert the hook in the two horizontal threads of sc from last Rnd, over the side of the work.
Sc 1= 1 st
Rep Rnd 3 until cord is 29.5” / 75 cm long.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Weave in beg tail.
FINISHING
Join each snap to one backing, right in the middle. With tapestry needle, sew each backing to the WS of the bag, centered, and one round from the edge down.
Insert the ends of the cord in the ch-1 sp on each side of the bag. Sew the ends of the cord together to close in the round, taking care not to twist the cord. Fasten off and weave in all ends. Adjust the cord to shape the double handle
And your Aria Envelope Bag is done. Fill it with all your essentials for the day and go out with comfort.
