Each yarn is so precious for us crafters, that it can become difficult to decide when to use it or which project to spend it on. To me, skeins of yarn that include different shades ask for simple designs, with not many special stitches, to make color transitions the main feature.
The Aura Spring Scarf is a long and light accessory, to wear on the warm seasons, only to cover the neck and shoulders. An easy crochet project that focuses on shaping and adding little details on the edge along the way.
A one piece project, that will allow you to relax and enjoy those colorful yarns. With written instructions and chart to guide you through the increases and decreases to get the right shape. And nothing more than that, as there are no complicated finishing directions.
Single crochets are the main stitches used on this design, a beginner friendly stitch. And in case you need a little practice before hand, remember you can always refer to my Crocheting from Scratch video below, which covers crochet basics right from the beginning. This way, you can move on with more confidence through more complicated crochet pieces.
The scarf includes increases and decreases, for 1 or 2 sts, in a repetitive row sequence which also adds the nice picots on the edge. A type of project you will get the hang of after several rows.
SPECIAL STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES
Ch-7 Picot
Decorative, round looking stitch, made from 7 chains which are closed in the round with a sl st. Ch 7, sl st in 7th ch from the hook.
Decrease (with single crochet)
Two single crochets closed together, to decrease one stitch. (Insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull through the st) twice, yarn over and pull through the three loops on the hook. One st has been decreased.
Single crochet 3 stitches together
(Insert the hook in the next stitch, yarn over and draw through the stitch) 3 times, yarn over and draw through the four loops on the hook. Two sts have been decreased.

Sport weight yarn and a slightly thicker hook were the choice, to make the scarf even lighter, something that we are especially looking for in this kind of Spring/Summer accessory.

FINISHING
Lay the scarf over a flat surface. Block, on the WS, by placing the steamer just above the work, without touching the weave, allowing the steam to spread all over and molding with the hands to flatten the complete piece and picots. Allow to dry. Place a cotton cloth between the scarf and the steamer if necessary, to avoid direct contact.
And you have completed your own Aura Spring Scarf! To wear all season long because it is so comfortable and easy to take everywhere you go.
