Whether you have finished your crochet project or if you own any handmade crochet item, it is very important to know that it may have some specific care instructions, to maintain it at its best. This is a list I personally follow to keep my crochet items long lasting and looking great, and I hope you find it useful.
- Hand wash separately in cold water with mild soap. Add a tablespoon or so of vinegar and salt, and mix before adding the soap, this will keep colors from running. This is super important when different colors are used within the same project. It will prevent dark colors from running and staining the lighter shades.
- Do not bleach, do not use softeners.
- Remove promptly (3-5 min are enough to remove dirt) and rinse well in cold water.
- Squeeze gently to remove excess water, then briefly roll into a towel. Do not wring dry.
- Lay the crochet piece and reshape to dry in the shadow.
- Do not tumble dry.
- If you see a long thread end don’t cut it, just hide it in between the stitches on the wrong side of the crochet garment.
- If you have the yarn tag available, also check for additional care instructions.
