FREE PATTERN WITH VIDEO TUTORIAL
All yarn lovers like me have a hard time throwing away remains from previous projects. We always think there will be a chance to give them a new purpose. And there is indeed, with projects such as the Color Facets Coasters, where we can take 4 different shades and make lovely color mixes, without over thinking it, just enjoying.
But it’s not only about using our stash, it’s also a good chance to learn something new. The project includes basic stitches, such as single crochet, working back and forth and in the round. But the technique used for color work is Intarsia Crochet and this small project will ease you into the skill, because I take you through the basic steps of it.
You’ll also be able to follow a color chart, which I demonstrate in the clip and is also attached below, in this same post, together with written row by row instructions.
SPECIAL TECHNIQUES
Intarsia crochet
Color work technique where yarns are switched to form a drawing. Each area of color is worked separately, without carrying additional colors in between the stitches or leaving floats on the back side, creating a double-sided project. Yarn bobbins are used to work each section.
You’ll learn to use yarn bobbins, which are essential for this design and help you keep your threads separate and ready for color changes. 4 different shades of sport weight yarn will result in the perfect coaster size.
