Crochet flower necklace / Collar de flores a crochet

There are many ways of making crochet flowers. An easy choice is to use a basic shape such as a circle to create bulky blooms. This technique is very common to see with regular fabric and we can easily imitate it with crochet. I used 100% cotton yarn (50 gr), a 2.5 mm crochet hook and a set of clasps.
Hay muchas maneras de tejer flores a ganchillo. Una opción sencilla está basada en una forma plana básica, el círculo, para crear retoños voluminosos. Esta técnica es muy común verla con tela y podemos imitarla fácilmente con crochet. Usé hilaza delgada de algodón (50 gr.), un gancho de 2.5 mm y un broche de presión.

Make 17 circles (5 for the base and 12 more to shape the flowers), all are crocheted in the round with double crochet. TIP: For the base circles leave a long strand when finishing, for the rest leave a long strand before beginning. To start, ch 4.
R1: In the 1st ch dc 11= 12 sts. Ss in the 3rd ch to close the row.
R2: Ch 3, dc 1 in the same st, (2 dc in next st) repeat ( ) 11 times= 24 sts. Ss in the 3rd ch.
R3: Ch 3, 2 dc in next st, (dc 1, 2 dc in next st) repeat ( ) 11 times= 36 sts. Ss in the 3rd ch.
Fasten off. Sew 5 circles together to shape the base as shown in the image.

Tejer 17 círculos (5 para la base y 12 más para formar las flores). Todos se tejen en redondo con macizos.
CONSEJO: Para los círculos de base dejar hebra larga al terminar y para el resto dejar hebra larga al inicio. Para empezar hacer 4 cad.
Vta. 1: En la 1er cad. hacer 11 mac= 12 p. Hacer 1 pd. en la 3er cad. para cerrar la vta.
Vta. 2: 3 cad, 1 mac en el mismo p, (2 mac en el sig. p) repetir ( ) 11 veces= 24 p. Hacer 1 pd. en la 3er cad.
Vta. 3: 3 cad, 2 mac en el sig. p, (1 mac, 2 mac en el sig. p) repetir ( ) 11 veces= 36 p. Hacer 1 pd. en la 3er cad. Rematar. Coser 5 círculos juntos para formar la base como se muestra en la imagen

The straps are crocheted back and forth, with dc. Leave a long strand at the beginning to sew afterwards. To start ch 13.
R1: Starting in the 5th ch from hook dc 9= 10 sts
R2-10: Ch 3, dc 9= 10 sts
R11: Ch 3, dec 1, dc 4, dec 1, dc 1= 8 sts
R12-30: Ch 3, dc 7= 8 sts. Fasten off.
Sew the straps to the circles on both edges, on the wrong side, as shown in the image.

Las tiras para abrochar se tejen de ida y vuelta, con mac. Dejar hebra larga al inicio para poder coser después. Hacer 13 cad.
Vta. 1: Empezando en la 5ª cad. desde el gancho hacer 9 mac= 10 p.
Vta. 2-10: 3 cad, 9 mac= 10 p.
Vta. 11: 3 cad, 1 dism, 4 mac, 1 dism, 1 mac= 8 p.
Vta. 12-30: 3 cad, 7 mac= 8 p. Rematar.
Coser las tiras a los círculos de cada extremo de la base, por el revés, como se muestra en la imagen.

There are 12 circles left for the flowers. Divide them into 3 groups of 4. Fold each of these 4 into quarters and sew to the center of one base circle. Only join the tip of the quarters, the rest must remain free. Each base circle that holds a flower will have 4 folded quarters attached to it. Shape and arrange the flower by opening the loose ends.
Para las flores quedan 12 círculos tejidos. Se dividen en 3 grupos de 4. Cada uno de estos 4 se doblan en cuartos y se cosen al centro de un círculo de base. Sólo unir la punta de estos cuartos, el resto debe quedar libre. Cada círculo de base que lleva una flor tiene 4 cuartos doblados. Dar forma a la flor abriendo las partes sin coser.

Sew the clasps to the straps and weave in all ends. The necklace is ready. The process takes a bit more work with the sewing needle but the final result is worth it. And you could play so much with this design, mixing different shades, flower and circle sizes and so many other possibilities…
Colocar el broche de presión y esconder todas las hebras. El collar está listo. Requiere un poco más de trabajo de costura que otros pero el resultado final lo vale. Y se podría jugar aún más con el diseño, combinando colores, tamaños de círculos y flores y muchas otras posibilidades…
