GRANNY SQUARE CLUTCH

FREE PATTERN WITH VIDEO TUTORIAL

One of the most basic projects within crochet is the classical granny square and I am not sure why but I had never made any pattern that included this beautiful timeless piece.

The Granny Square Clutch is easy and fun including not only squares but also granny triangles, to make it extra special and perfect to use different yarn colors.

To practice both in the round and back and forth crocheting with the ideal size to carry your daily essentials (wallet, phone and keys).

Separate little pieces that are joined together easily to shape the little bag and then, only a few more rounds for the edging.

A free pattern that is worked mainly with double crochets, chains and single crochets too, all basic stitches. If you do not have many notions of these stitches you can watch my Basic Stitches back and forth video below, which covers all the essentials for three different stitches, including double crochets and single crochets, if you feel you need some practice first.

A project that has a repetitive set of stitches to create each square and triangle in only 3 rounds/rows. Then easy finishing after simple sewing to add the button and a nice cord to hold from the side.

The crochet cord is made with the same process as my Catena Crochet Necklace/Bracelet tutorial which you will be able to follow as well, for that final detail of the Granny Square Clutch.

STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES
Invisible join

It is used to get a cleaner end of round. Finish last st of the Rnd, cut the yarn leaving a 4”/10 cm tail and pull the yarn through the final loop. Thread tapestry needle and insert in the first st of the rnd. Then, insert the needle on top of the last st of the rnd, by going through the center and pulling through the WS. Pull to close and fasten off.

Single crochet join (Standing single crochet)
Used to add a new yarn in the beginning of a new round, to get a cleaner start. Make a slip ring over the hook, insert the hook in the st, yarn over, pull through the st, yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.

This video tutorial for the Granny Square Clutch covers all steps of the making. Video is in Spanish, but you have the option to see the Closed Caption in the language of your choice, by selecting the settings icon on the video then, select Closed Caption, Automatic Translation and select your language. And you also have all written directions, images and a chart (below this same post), to follow every detail step by step.

If you want the formatted, ad free, 11 page PDF document (with written instructions, chart and more than 50 images in photo tutorials) of the Granny Square Clutch, this is available in my pattern stores (RavelryEtsyLovecrochet) for USD $3.60.

PLEASE NOTE, THAT THE VIDEO TUTORIAL DISPLAYS THE CLUTCH MADE IN DARK BLUE/BLUE, WHILE THE WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS DISPLAY IT IN GREEN/CAMEL.
