FREE PATTERN WITH VIDEO TUTORIAL
I love working with cables and it had been a while since my last crochet design with this special technique. But I came across this yarn with nice blue shades, started stitching and suddenly I was making this combination of textures.
The Grazia Fingerless Gloves will make you obsessed like I was, eager to finish and wear them right away. Practical because they allow you to go on with your daily activities with such style. And the yarn looks so enriched with the mix of special stitches that pop out beautifully.
Intermediate easy level because it does need a little attention for the first rounds to create the sequences to repeat. But once you get the grasp of it, it is such joy to see the weave that starts revealing.
So, in this kind of project you do need a little practice beforehand, knowing basic stitches already and maybe even trying other design with cables if you need. Both my Cabled Cape and my Treccia Messy Bun Hat tutorials can help if you want to check them out as well.
Fingering weight is so perfect for this project, because it thickens with the cables and popcorns, keeping the gloves soft and elastic. And you will practice such a fun variety of stitches, that are basically back or front loop and front post, single and double crochet variations.
SPECIAL STITCHES
Front loop double crochet
Double crochet, made in front loop of stitches from indicated round. Insert the hook in fl of st, yarn over, pull through the st, (yarn over, pull through two loops on the hook) twice.
Back loop single crochet
Single crochet, made in back loop of stitches from last row/round. Insert the hook in bl of next st, yarn over, pull through the st, yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.
Front post double crochet
Double crochet, wrapping st from last round from the front, to create a textured stitch. Yarn over, insert the hook, front to back of next dc from last round, yarn over, pull through the back of the st, (yarn over, pull through two loops on the hook) twice.
Popcorn stitch (of 3 back loop double crochets)
Three double crochets made in the back loop of one stitch, then, join first and last double crochet to shape the popcorn. Make 3 bl dc in next st, drop the hook from the last dc, insert the hook, front to back in the first dc, take the loop from last dc and pull through the first dc. Ch 1
to close.
Back loop single crochet join (Standing back loop single crochet)
Used to add a new yarn in the beginning of a new round, to get a cleaner start. Make a slip ring over the hook, insert the hook in the back loop of the st, yarn over, pull through the st, yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.
Invisible join
It is used to get a cleaner end of round. Finish last st of the Rnd, cut the yarn leaving a 4”/10 cm tail and pull the yarn through the final loop. Thread tapestry needle and insert in the first st of the rnd. Then, insert the needle on top of the last st of the rnd, by going through the center and pulling through the WS. Pull to close and fasten off.
Single crochet join (Standing single crochet)
Used to add a new yarn in the beginning of a new round, to get a cleaner start. Make a slip ring over the hook, insert the hook in the st, yarn over, pull through the st, yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.
Invisible decrease (single crochet)
Usually used for amigurumi, where stitches need to be tighter, before adding stuffing.
Insert the hook in the front loop of next stitch, immediately insert the hook in the front loop of next stitch, yarn over and draw through two loops on the hook, yarn over and draw through last two loops on the hook. One stitch has been decreased.
