Crocheted back and forth, starting from the bottom. Ch 28, leaving a long tail for sewing afterwards.
R1: Starting in 2nd ch from the hook, sc 27, turn= 27 sts
R2: Ch 1, (sc 1, ch 1, sk next st) rep ( ) 13 times, sc 1, turn= 14 sc and 13 ch-1 spaces
R3: Ch 1, sc 1, (sc 1 in next ch 1 space, ch 1, sk next st) rep ( ) 12 times, sc 1 in next ch 1 space, sc 1, turn= 15 sc and 12 ch-1 spaces

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
With the beginning tail, sew first 24 rows, from bottom to top. With the tail from the top, sew last 6 rows, from top to bottom.
THUMB
Rejoin yarn in last row joined from the top of unsewed space. Continue crocheting in the round, in a spiral, inserting the hook through unsewed rows, all around, to shape the thumb.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc 7, dec 1, sc 1 (right through the bottom seam), dec 1, sc 7, sc 1 (right through the top seam)= 18 sts
