FREE PATTERN WITH VIDEO TUTORIAL
Winter is a beautiful season, with a combination of chilly mornings and excitement for the holidays. A lovely time to fill our homes and spirits with joy and decor that goes with the Christmas mood.
Time for gatherings and family visits, which bring great motivation to dress up our atmospheres. But also, lots of things to plan and a busy agenda. So, when it comes to adding some new festive decor, we’re in the need of something fast and easy to complete. And the Natale Snowflakes are just right.
A mix of simple stitches, to make in 3 different sizes and shapes, to resemble the variety in actual snowflakes. Chains, single crochets, double crochets, picots and popcorns, to create texture and movement. Easy level and quick, with only a few simple rounds, that are repeated in one model to the next, for you to swiftly crochet.
SPECIAL STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES
Popcorn stitch (of 5 double crochets): Five double crochets made in one stitch, then, join first and last double crochet to shape the popcorn. Make 5 dc in next st, drop the hook from the last dc, insert the hook, front to back in the first dc, take the loop from last dc and pull through the first dc.
Ch-4 Picot: Decorative, round looking stitch, made from 4 chains which are closed in the round with a sl st. Ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from the hook.
Ch-7 Picot: Decorative, round looking stitch, made from 7 chains which are closed in the round with a sl st. Ch 7, sl st in 7th ch from the hook.
Suitable for crochet newbies, to practice in the round construction and to use up those yarn leftovers at home. By adding a metallic crochet thread, for that sparkly extra. To decorate and spread all over your dinner table and give it that frosty, neutral feel.
Video tutorial (below) including all steps, to make small, medium and big snowflake. Written instructions and chart also included in this post, for the ones that are more used to following symbols.
Fingering weight cotton yarn in a super light shade is my suggestion for this small project. This will showcase stitching best and allow the metallic thread to shine. And you’ll basically use your crochet hook and the tapestry needle, only to hide the tails by the end.
