FREE PATTERN WITH VIDEO TUTORIAL
My main design objects for the past few years have been bags. Many different kinds, from totes, to backpacks and clutches. But there are many fashion accessories still to make. And the Sea Stars Shawl is one of those garments that can be super fashionable and easy to wear for all seasons.
To try in different ways, for that versatility you’re looking for. Worked back and forth and constructed of one single triangular piece, which will be long enough to cover the shoulders and even wrap around the neck when you feel like it.
Main stitches included are single crochets and treble crochets, that are combined to create that geometric stitch pattern. With a final edge, made of single crochets and decorative picots, to give it that special touch. Basic stitches really, but classified as an intermediate skill project, just because it requires a bit more of a trained eye, to identify the right place to make every stitch.
SPECIAL STITCHES
Treble crochet: Double crochet, with an extra yarn over at the beginning, to create a taller stitch. Yarn over twice, insert hook in next st, yarn over and draw through the st, (yarn over and draw through two loops on the hook) twice, yarn over and draw through last two loops on the hook.
Picot (with 8 chains): Decorative, round looking stitch, made from 8 chains which are closed in the round with a sl st. Ch 8, sl st in 8th ch from the hook.
You’ll find the stitch pattern very interesting. Video tutorial and chart come super handy to understand its sequence. After a few rows, it will become that kind of project where you can just sit back and relax, while listening to some music. Written instructions and some photos are also included below, for you to have still shots of the process.
If you want the formatted, ad free, 5 page PDF document (with written instructions, chart and images) of the Sea Stars Shawl, this is available in my pattern stores (Ravelry, Etsy, Lovecrochet) for USD $2.50.
Cotton worsted weight yarn was my choice, and in light colors, which I think showcase the stitch work best. This type of thread makes a nice weave and gives a nice drape too, for a modern look. And you basically need your yarn and hook, no other finishing accessories or techniques. Only light blocking (if you wish) by the end, to make the picots of the edge more defined.
