FREE PATTERN WITH VIDEO TUTORIAL
From little kids to adults, unicorns are the magical creatures adored by all. So, I had to make my own version and use a couple of bag fastenings I had lying in my craft room. That’s how the Unicorn Coin Purse design emerged.
Showing you two color choices, for there can be so many colors to play with, especially lighter, kind of pastel tones. With a mix of Tapestry Crochet technique and appliqués for those extra cute touches. Crocheted in the round, with single crochet, basic increases and decreases, to shape the bag and additional embellishments. Bag is constructed from the bottom up, while drawing the eyes and horn.
If you’ve never tried tapestry, you may want to check my video tutorial (Tapestry crochet, getting started) first, to be aware of what’s all about. It’s easier than you may think.
SPECIAL TECHNIQUES: Tapestry Crochet
In this technique, you crochet with one yarn while one or more threads are carried and wrapped in between the stitches. Colors are switched throughout rounds to make a drawing. Depending on the project, you will make one or more foundation rows/rounds with one color only and then move on to the tapestry crochet portion of the project.
Video tutorial for the coin purse takes you through every step: Shaping the bottom, carrying and wrapping the additional color, making color changes to draw the tapestry portions of the pattern, following the chart (included below written instructions in this post) and finally, sewing little ears and flowers and attaching to the metallic frame.
A good project, for when you have small yarn leftovers. I’m also suggesting fingering weight, for a thinner fabric, which will make it easier to attach to the frame by the end. Take a detailed look at the kind of frame in the video, to be attached all around the little purse edge. You can find a lot of different frames available. Please note this tutorial specifies instructions for this kind of round frames only.
