My sister’s second baby’s on the way and we’re all so excited!! We celebrated her baby shower this past weekend and yarn couldn’t be left out of the party. It’s been a while since I bought Jean Greenhowe’s knitting booklet with Emily doll pattern. At that time I had no idea when I would knit it because my main focus is in crocheting. But once my sister announced she was expecting a baby girl I knew this would be the perfect moment to give it to her. I wouldn’t rate it as a difficult knitting pattern, clear instructions guide you throughout the process. It does involve many steps to assemble the final doll but it’s totally worth the time spent once it’s done. I already looked up to Jean but now that I’ve finally knit one of her designs my admiration grew a lot more. My sister just loved it and I couldn’t help sharing with you.
El segundo bebé de mi hermana viene en camino y todos estamos muy emocionados. Celebramos su baby shower este fin de semana pasado y el estambre no podía quedar fuera de la celebración. Tiene un tiempo desde que compré la revista de patrones para dos agujas de Jean Greenhowe con la muñeca Emily. En ese momento no tenía idea de cuando la tejería, sobretodo porque me dedico principalmente al gancho. Pero cuando mi hermana anunció que esperaba una niña sabía que era el momento y la terminé para dársela en esta celebración. No lo clasificaría como un patrón difícil, claras instrucciones te guían durante todo el proceso. Sí requiere de bastantes pasos para formar la muñeca final pero vale la pena todo el tiempo invertido una vez terminada. Ya sentía admiración por el trabajo de Jean pero ahora que finalmente tejí uno de sus diseños, mi admiración creció aún más. A mi hermana le encantó y no pude evitar compartir con ustedes.
And together with the doll and decoration for the shower (in case you are wondering the garland spells BIENVENIDA which means WELCOME) we treated the lady guests with some special favors. These were originally coffee and artichoke jars so we just filled them with assorted candy and covered the lid with crochet. You just have to crochet a circular or square shape in the round with double crochet (UK triple crochet). To finish we tied a ribbon on the top. We used yarn left overs so we only had to buy the candy. I think it’s great we can include the craft we know in almost every aspect of our lives, people react so nice when you give them something special.
Y junto con la muñeca y la decoración para el shower dimos unos dulces detalles a las asistentes. Éstos eran originalmente frascos de café y de alcachofas que llenamos con dulces y cubrimos las tapas con trabajo a ganchillo. Sólo hay que tejer una forma circular o cuadrada en redondo con macizos (punto alto). Para terminar agregamos un listón en la parte superior. Usamos sobrantes de estambre así que sólo tuvimos que comprar los dulces. Creo que es muy lindo poder incluir la manualidad que conocemos en casi cada aspecto de nuestras vidas, la gente reacciona muy bien cuando les das algo especial.
Oh, and my free pattern of the week is still pending, I’ll publish it by friday for sure, it will be something for the home.
