CLASSIC FRAME PURSE

FREE PATTERN WITH VIDEO TUTORIAL

Coin purses are such a cute accessory and a great little gift, also a great project to use scraps of yarn and make interesting color combinations. And there are so beautiful bag fastenings out there that I just had to go and use them for these practical mini bags.

This is basically made with single crochet stitch, back and forth, and constructed of 3 pieces which are seamed together by the end.

Highlight of the purse is the main piece, that’s made with Tapestry Crochet technique, with back and forth variation and a repetitive color work pattern. If you’ve never tried this before, you may want to check my video tutorial (Tapestry crochet, back and forth with single crochet), in which I explain how it’s made. This can make you feel more confident to start the coin purse later.

SPECIAL TECHNIQUES: Tapestry Crochet
In this technique, you crochet with one yarn while one or more threads are carried and wrapped in between the stitches. Colors are switched throughout rows/rounds to make a drawing. Depending on the project, you will make one or more foundation rows/rounds with one color only and then move on to the tapestry crochet portion of the project.

Then, you can go ahead and see the complete clip for the coin purse, where you will be able to see all the way to attaching your crochet to the bag frame. And complement with row by row, written instructions below.

Little yarn, to draw the color work pattern and shape the sides. And you will also use some regular sewing thread, needles and pins to make the finishing as easy as possible for you. I suggest that you take a detailed look at the kind of frame, because there are different shapes out there. Please note this tutorial specifies instructions for this kind of square frame, which can only be attached from the ends.

FINISHING
Pin each side to the bottom and sides of the main piece, with WS facing, and 1 cm inwards. Join with tapestry needle, leaving first and last row of main piece (made with brown ONLY) free. Attach each edge of the main piece to the bag fastening. For a better distribution of the crochet fabric along the fastening, use two sewing needles to join each end at the same time until reaching the center of the frame. Then, fasten off.
