CROCHET COLLAR

FREE PATTERN WITH PHOTO TUTORIAL

When I have a special yarn, with a mixture of fibers, colors or texture, I think it’s the best choice to make a simple design. This makes it easier to appreciate yarn quality and avoids saturation of elements.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Treble Crochet: Yarn over twice, insert hook in the stitch, yarn over, draw through the stitch, (yarn over, draw through two loops on the hook) twice, yarn over and draw through the last two loops on the hook.

If you’ve never tried crochet before, you may want to watch my Crocheting from scratch video, where I explain how it’s done for complete beginners. This can give you more confidence before trying the actual collar.

Less than 50 gr. of yarn are necessary to finish this quick and cute accessory, which is perfect for beginner crocheters, because it involves basic crochet stitches and simple back and forth construction. Just one special stitch, the treble crochet, but that is really quite easy too. And one piece only, with practically no seaming, other than adding the little clasps.

SUGGESTED MATERIALS

  • 5 mm (H8) crochet hook
  • One (50 gr/ 1.76 oz, 120 yd/ 110 m) skein of double knitting weight yarn (44% acrylic, 38% cotton, 18% manufactured fibers) in LILAC
  • Set of small clasps
  • Sewing thread
  • Sewing needle
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape

SKILL LEVEL

Easy: This design includes crochet basic stitches, easy shaping and finishing techniques.

CROCHET COLLAR

Crocheted back and forth, starting from the inner edge. Ch 74.
R1:
Starting in 2nd ch from the hook, sc 73, turn= 73 sts
R2-4: Ch 1, sc 73, turn= 73 sts

R5 (RS): (Ch 4, tr 3) in first st, sk 2 sts, [(sc 1, ch 3, tr 3) in next st, sk 2 sts] rep [ ] 23 times, sc 1. When making this R, your work will automatically start to curve shaping into a collar.

Fasten off.

FINISHING

Weave in all ends. Sew the clasps with regular sewing thread and needle, by attaching one part to the RS and the other to the WS, just over the edge, as seen on the photo.

This can be a great choice as a present, make many of these in different colors and you’ll be ready for any celebration.
