FREE PATTERN WITH VIDEO TUTORIAL

Headbands are so practical, for everyday looks or special occasions. They instantly set your hair tidier and give you a fresh appearance. And they are also a great choice for sporting events.

The Crochet Color Headband is perfect to customize with distinctive colors, for any country or team. It is fast to make, in only a few rows and with nice stitch work that creates a beautiful texture. And you can add an elastic band to make it more flexible.

Crochet stitch work involved is not exactly for beginners but it’s not hard either. In case you need to practice a little beforehand, you can watch my Basic stitches, back and forth video, where I display the making of crochet essentials. You can focus on double crochets, which are the base for this specific project.

SPECIAL STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES

2 double crochet cluster (2-dc cl)
Two double crochets, closed together and made in one same stitch. Yarn over, insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull through the st, yarn over, pull through two loops on the hook, yarn over, insert hook in same st, yarn over, pull through the st, yarn over, pull through two loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through the three loops on the hook.

Cluster “V” stitch
Special crochet stitch that combines 2dc-cl to shape a “V” for a texture pattern stitch. It is mainly created by working 2 dc-cl, 2 ch and 2 dc-cl.

Single crochet join (Standing single crochet)

Used to add a new yarn in the beginning of a new round, to get a cleaner start. Make a slip ring over the hook, insert the hook in the st, yarn over, pull through the st, yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.

All essential steps are covered in the Crochet Color Headband. Video is in Spanish, but you have the option to see the Closed Caption in the language of your choice, by selecting the settings icon on the video then, select Closed Caption, Automatic Translation and select your language. And you also have the written directions (below this same post), to follow every detail step by step.

Written instructions give you the choice for 3 different sizes for the headband, which you can find between ( ). First size can fit children from 8 to 12 years of age, second size is suitable for teens and adults and third size is a bit larger, which can even work to be used on a hat or cap. PLEASE NOTE that the video tutorial and photos below display the making of the second size (M).

Sport weight yarn is the selection for this design, because you will reach the desired length and width for the headband and it will also be light and comfortable, with defined stitches for that lovely texture on this weave.
