Upcycled fabric bag

FINISHED SIZE
10.6” x 7.1”/ 27 cm x 18 cm (width x height without the handle)

GAUGE (sc, in the round)
5 sts x 6 rows= 4”/ 10 cm
NOTE: Super bulky upcycled fabric yarn is 0.8-1.2 cm wide but it’s also good to measure the material with the edges unfolded to get a more accurate gauge (see the images below).

STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES
– Single crochet (UK double crochet)
– Slip stitch

SUGGESTED MATERIALS
– 12 mm crochet hook
– One 400 gr/ 14.11 oz (80 m/ 87 yds) skein of super bulky Upcycled fabric yarn (95% Cotton, 5% Elastan) from Ice Yarns in Light Brown, fnt2-42150
– One 2.4”/ 6 cm wide button
– Some leftover yarn to sew the button
– Stitch marker

ABBREVIATIONS
– ch: chain
– Rnd: round
– st: stitch
– sl st: slip stitch
– sc: single crochet
– dec: decrease

BAG
Crocheted in the round, in a spiral way, starting from the base. Ch 7.
Rnd 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook (place marker in the first st), sc 4, 5 sc in next ch, continue on the other side of the ch, sc 4, 2 sc in the last ch= 18 sts
Rnd 2: Relocate color marker in the first st of every round. This will make counting rounds and sts easier.
5 sc in first st, sc 8, 5 sc in next st, sc 8= 26 sts
Rnd 3: Sc 26= 26 sts
Rnd 4: Sc 2, 2 sc in next st, sc 12, 2 sc in next st, sc 10= 28 sts
Rnd 5: Sc 3, 2 sc in next st, sc 13, 2 sc in next st, sc 10= 30 sts
Rnd 6: Sc 4, 2 sc in next st, sc 14, 2 sc in next st, sc 10= 32 sts
Rnd 7-10: Sc 32= 32 sts
Rnd 11: Sc 4, dec 1, sc 14, dec 1, sc 7, ch 8 (eyelet opening), skip 1 st, sc 2.
Rnd 12: Sc 5 just to reach the fold of the bag.
Rnd 13: Sc 5 (relocate marker in the first of these sts for the new beginning of round), ch 35 (handle opening), skip 5 sts, sc 10, ch 35 (handle opening), skip 5 sts, sc 5. Sl st in the first st of the round.
Fasten off and weave in all ends.

FINISHING
Sew the button to the bag.
The bag is finished.
